Counselling Torbay – integrative therapy in TORQUAY, Devon

Take a breath. You’re in the right place

M I N D E ST – higher level of mind. This name reflects an elevated way of thinking, an evolved mindset that transcends conventional approaches. It embodies growth, transformation, and a deeper awareness, perfectly aligning with my mission to inspire meaningful change.

But what does that really mean? It means seeing life not just as a series of problems to solve, but as something to experience fully. It’s about expanding the way we understand ourselves. It’s about questioning the beliefs that no longer serve us, and making space for something new. It’s the space between who you’ve been and who you’re becoming, with more clarity, compassion, and choice.

Trauma, anxiety, depression or grief - they don’t just live in the mind; they weigh on the us. Healing isn’t about erasing them, but about integrating them, making sense of them, and sometimes even making peace with them. MINDEST is about depth, clarity, and connection to yourself, to others, and to something greater.

And sure, sometimes that’s deep, difficult, philosophical, even spiritual, but other times, it’s just about getting through the day with your sanity intact. However it looks, you’re not alone in it. This is a space for exploration and rediscovering the power of who you are.

If you are looking for counselling in Torbay area, my practice is based in Torquay, just a short walk from the beautiful seafront, by the harbour. I work with adults (18+) and at the moment offer in-person sessions only. Online coming soon!

Hi, Im Tee, an integrative counsellor

I’m fascinated by identity, how it’s built, how it changes and evolves. I care about how minds work. Why do we repeat things, why do we sabotage or cling to what hurts. The patterns, survival strategies, stories we inherit and the ones we accidentally keep repeating.

I believe in science, nervous systems, a bunch of psychological theories, but I also respect that humans are symbolic creatures who make meaning in strange, powerful ways.

I care about autonomy, about people thinking for themselves, about not reducing someone to a diagnosis or a label, you are not a label!

Most issues make sense when you zoom out far enough, and once you see the logic, you can choose differently. Anxiety, overthinking, avoidance or perfectionism - they’re not random at all, they’re strategies, and strategies can be understood.

I don’t do surface-level anything. If something is driving your life, I want to understand where it came from, how it’s protecting you. If something keeps happening, there’s a reason, and I’m interested in that reason.

Services

A calm, modern therapy room with soft neutral tones, comfortable seating, and a welcoming, private setting designed for counselling and EMDR

Counselling

No two people are the same, so no single therapy fits everyone. Integrative counselling blends different approaches - like person-centred, CBT, psychodynamic and existential - to suit your needs, not a textbook. It means we can explore your past, make sense of the present, and face life’s bigger questions about meaning, purpose, and choice. Together we build tools for the future while staying grounded in what matters most to you.

It’s not about quick fixes or one-size-fits-all solutions - it’s about having a safe, confidential place where you can be honest, explore what’s going on beneath the surface, and start creating change.

Some people want a few sessions to get back on track with practical strategies. Others choose longer-term work to explore deeper patterns, past experiences, or identity. Both are welcome.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy designed for trauma and overwhelming experiences. It helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they lose their grip, without needing to go into every detail. Using guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, EMDR works directly with the nervous system to unblock stuck trauma responses. The result is reduced distress, calmer reactions, and freedom to move forward without being pulled back by the past.

While EMDR can be highly effective, it’s not the right fit for everyone at every stage. Because the process can bring up intense emotional responses, it’s important that you feel emotionally stable and supported before beginning. If you’re currently in crisis, struggling with severe dissociation, or dealing with ongoing trauma without safety or stability in your daily life, EMDR may not be appropriate just yet.

Things You Might Be Wondering

FAQ

Is everything I say in therapy confidential?

Yes. Everything you share in session is held in strict confidence. The only exceptions are if there’s a risk of serious harm to yourself or others, or if I’m legally required to disclose information (e.g. child protection concerns). I’ll always aim to discuss this with you first, wherever possible. Your privacy and trust are central to this work.

How long are sessions and how often will I need them?

Sessions are 50 minutes long and typically take place weekly, but we can discuss what works best for you. Some people come short-term to work through a specific issue, others stay longer for deeper, ongoing support. You’re not locked into anything, we go at your pace.

What if I don't know what to talk about?

That’s completely okay - and more common than you think. You don’t need to arrive with a plan. This space is about showing up as you are, even if that means sitting in silence for a while. Sometimes the hardest part is just starting. I’ll meet you wherever you are.

How much does it cost, and how do I pay?

Sessions are between £50 and £70 (EMDR), £10 deposit should be paid at the time of booking, either online through a secure system or - if you'd rather arrange things via email - I will send you the link directly. Payment on the day is accepted by card or cash. Cancellations are available up to 48 hours before the session. If you're unsure whether therapy is right for you, we can start with a free 15-minute consultation call - no pressure, no commitment.

Do you work with children or teenagers?

My practice is focused on working with adults aged 18 and over. The work I do is tailored to the complexities, responsibilities, and inner shifts that come with adult life. If you’re looking for support for a young person, I’m happy to recommend trusted therapists who specialise in working with children or teens.

What if therapy feels too intense or uncomfortable?

That’s totally valid. Sometimes it will feel messy or confronting - but that’s part of the process, not a sign you’re doing it wrong. I’ll always work at a pace that feels safe for you. This isn’t about forcing anything - it’s about exploring what’s true, together.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes, I offer both face-to-face and online sessions. I believe there’s something powerful about being in the room together, but if you’re not able to attend in person, we can absolutely make it work online.

I’ve never had therapy before - will you tell me what to do?

Not exactly. This isn’t about me handing out advice or telling you how to live. Therapy with me is a conversation - one where we explore what’s going on beneath the surface, what matters to you, and where you want to go next. I’ll offer reflections, ask questions, and sometimes challenge you, but I won’t direct your life. You bring the truth, I bring the space to help you find your way through it.

Deep Conversations: Exploring Mental HEALTH & Expanding your Mind

Strategic Resilience

Your turn. What pissed you off today?

This isn’t about pretending life is sunshine when it’s clearly a storm, it’s about alchemy. Every irritation, every heartbreak, every loss is raw material. You either sit in the dirt with it or you turn it into firepower, drown in it, or you can weaponise it.

Being “seen and heard”

discomfort is NOT TRAUMA

In this blog, I dismantle the obsession with being “seen and heard” and explore the real difference between trauma and triggers. It’s a raw take on why capacity matters more than comfort, and why therapy should be about building strength, not just holding space.

Rules of my Counselling Room

We don’t do ‘sorry’ in here.

You don’t have to soften your edges, explain your silence, or make your feelings sound pretty. This is a space for what’s real, for the words that choke, the rage that simmers, the truth that’s never been spoken out loud.

Bring all of it. I’m ready.
